LITERATURA LUDOWA - CALL FOR PAPERS

CALL FOR PAPERS for the subsequent volume of Literatura Ludowa (Journal of Folklore and Popular Culture) published by The Polish Ethnological Society

Editor-in-chief Piotr Grochowski

vol. 65 (2021/1)

Folk music and politics

In 2021 Literatura Ludowa (Journal of Folklore and Popular Culture) intends to publish a monographic issue devoted to the relationship between folk music and politics. We would like to treat both of these concepts broadly and to subject a scientific analysis of various practices of power and resistance, in which there are references to local musical traditions and unprofessional forms of music-making.

On the one hand, we are interested in the circumstances of how folk music becomes a vernacular form of expression of political views and is a tool in the practices of resistance, establishing and destroying power relations and building political alliances. On the other hand, we would like to look at the processes of appropriation and/or manipulation of folk music by professional institutions and official ideologies (state, religious, business) and its use in achieving specific political goals, visible in different countries and at different periods. We also consider the question of the mutual relations and interactions between vernacular and professional activities undertaken in this field.

We invite you to contribute academic articles to this issue. The preferred language is English, but we also accept Bulgarian, Czech, German, Polish and Russian.

Articles should be sent by February 15, 2021 to Piotr Grochowski by e-mail: Piotr.Grochowski@umk.pl
